In 1972 the Congregational Church in England and Wales united with the Presbyterian Church of England to form the United Reformed Church. In 1981 we were further joined by the Churches of Christ and so developed a presence in central Scotland as well as England and Wales.

On 1st April 2000 the Scottish Congregational Church and The United Reformed Church formally united and so the United Reformed Church has become a witness throughout the whole of Britain.

The United Reformed Church is one of the smaller mainstream churches in Britain, but despite its size remains fully committed to Christian Unity. Other key features are the proper recognition of the leadership and role of women and young folk, the breadth of our worship, commitment to the world's poor and to peace and justice, international links through the Council for World Mission and a breadth of membership that encompasses both liberal and evangelical tendencies. As a Reformed Church we place great emphasis on Scripture and on preaching.
